Forcefield Hurricane Protection Systems ®, was founded in 2004 after Hurricane Charley caught many Floridians — including owner Harris Bowers — completely off guard. When Charley unexpectedly intensified into a Category 4 hurricane and shifted course, it became the second costliest hurricane in U.S. history at that time. Its path of destruction stretched all the way to Orlando, nearly demolishing Harris’s Punta Gorda home and those of his neighbors.

In the weeks that followed, with Hurricanes Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne threatening the region, Harris found himself in the same position as countless others: urgently needing to protect his family and his home. After receiving estimates from three different companies, he was shocked by their tactics, lack of professionalism, and questionable ethics. It became clear that the community needed a better option.
